Don't shoot right away:

this is a mistake I see a lot of beginners do. once they spot an enemy they shoot at him so this enemy may be so far that you can kill him easily and by shooting you just expose your location. instead hold you fire and keep an eye on him until you get close or get a good aim at him then you can shoot and kill him.
